U.S. Congressman Louie Gohmert Reiterates Support for Independent Baluchistan at a Congressional Bri

WASHINGTON DC: The U.S. Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) reiterated his support for an independent Baluchistan at a Congressional Briefing held at the Rayburn House Office Building on May 10, saying, while quoting his conversations with leaders from Afghanistan and Baluchistan, that a free Baluchistan would dramatically change everything in the region, bring an end to “Pakistan’s arrogance and hostility toward the United States and the Baluch people.”
During the congressional briefing, Dr. Hosseinbor thanked Congressman Gohmert for his support of an independent Baluchistan and for his condemnation of human rights violations and repression of Baluch by Iranian and Pakistani governments. Dr. Hosseinbor also spoke about the importance of the US support for the Baluch freedom as a just struggle against Iran and Pakistan as the main sources of state-sponsored terrorism in the world. He called upon the US Government to raise the issue of 35,000 Baluch disappeared in Pakistani Baluchistan under ISI's kill and dump policy. He also asked Congressman Gohmert to support broadcasts in Baluchi language from the VOA. Dr. Hosseinbor also raised the threat posed by the Chinese build up of a naval base in Gwadar Port as a strategic threat to the Strait of Hormuz and to the US interests in the region. He added that China Pakistan Economic Corridor and the Chinese Naval base in Gwadar are opposed by the Baluch nation as the rightful owners of Gwadar.
As the author of highly acclaimed book on Baluch nationalisn and a prominent international lawyer, Dr. Hosseinbor has testified numerous times in the US Congress and was the first Baluch representative to testify on the first and only Congressional Hearing held on Baluchistan in 2012. Congressman Gohmert along with Congressman Dana Rohrabacher had convened the 2012 Congressional Hearing on Baluchistan, where he called the Baluch as “our friends” whom “we should support.” After that first hearing Both congressmen sponsored a historical Bill in support of an independent Baluchistan. The Bill is still pending in the US Congress.
In addition to Dr. Hosseinbor, the Briefing was also attended by the former Speaker of the Baluchistan Assembly Mr. Waheed Baloch and UNPO’s representative Mr. Naser Boladai.

Congressman Gohmert was among several leading Congressmen who met with leaders from Baluchistan and the Afghan Northern Alliance, including former Afghan Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum, about four years ago.“We asked what would happen if we pushed for Baloch independence. What would change? ,” he recalled, “they said everything. The hostility and arrogance of Pakistan will change dramatically both toward America and the Baloch people.”
Congressman Gohmert said that Iran recently had conveyed its concerns to Pakistan about an increase in Baluch activities on its side and it feared that if the Baluch in Pakistan succeeded in gaining their independence, that would cause problems for Iran.
“Well, that [an uprising in the Iranian Balochistan] is a great problem for Iran to have,” he said, “this [an independent Balochistan] is something that will help the United States immeasurably. We should help people who are being suppressed, terrorized and being driven out from their homes. This is something that must stop.”
Congressman Gohmert criticized President Obama’s foreign policies and said support for the Baloch would increase gradually.
Congressman Gohmert co-authored an article with Congressman Dana Rohrabacher calling for an independent Baluchistan, provoking an editorial published in a Pakistani newspaper calling Islamabad to review its Baluchistan policy in the wake of that article.
“I was amazed at what response one article could get in Islamabad. I wonder what kind of response we will get if we actually take a firm stand in support of our friends, the Baloch people?”
