Copenhagen accuses Iran of planning to kill opponent on Danish soil

Denmark’s intelligence chief accused Tehran of planning to assassinate an opponent of the Iranian government on Danish soil.
Finn Borch Andersen said at a press conference Tuesday that Swedish authorities arrested a Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent on October 21 over the allegations, and the suspect was then extradited to Denmark.
“We are dealing with an Iranian intelligence agency planning an attack on Danish soil,” Andersen told reporters. “Obviously, we can’t and won’t accept that.”
The target of the suspected attack plot is part a group of Iranian residents in Ringsted, said Andersen. Authorities believe the group is part of the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz (ASMLA), which advocates for a separate state for ethnic Arabs in the southwest of Iran. Read more
